Latest Analysis Focuses on the Growing Role of PPAs in SEE Electricity Markets

Despite possibly the most turbulent year in recent history for the European energy markets, the number and volume of PPAs remained impressively stable. 2022 saw disclosed contracted volumes of 8.4 GW – a 21% decrease with respect to 10.7 GW in 2021, based on data provided by Pexapark, a Swiss-based advisory company, specialised in renewable energy. Deal count increased 4.5% year-on-year, with a total of at least 161 deals in lieu of 154 the year before

IENE Regional Conference Breaks New Ground

As the 14th SEE Energy Dialogue kikcks off today in Thessaloniki, Greece’s northern commercial capital, interest from major energy players and participants is growing by the minute. Some 64 speakers, moderators and panelists will be taking the floor while more than 200 attendees with physical presence and online have already registered to follow the proceedings. The conference, which is backed by a group of 16 sponsors, supporters and media partners will focus on the region’s energy security, energy supply and decarbonisation issues. Also central to the themes of this two day event is the functioning of the electricity and gas markets, including power exchanges andgas trading hubs but also electricity and gas infrastructure. Considerable emphasis is also placed on Renewable energy Sources (RES), energy efficiency and hydrogen.

The detailed programme for this year’s SEE Energy Dialogue has just been announced and is available through the event’s site here. More than 60 speakers, panelists and moderators which come from the Balkan and East Mediterranean region but also from other European countries will participate in this unique one and a half day event. In fulfilment of its educational mission, the Institute of Energy for South-East Europe in co-operation with the Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) of Deree College in Athens, organized, from March 29 to May 6, 2023, an introductory course on “Energy and Geopolitics”.
