Innovative ideas, products and services, currently
being developed in Greece, aiming to respond to some of the most important
challenges the energy sector is facing, were presented in the 2nd Energy Tech
Forum, which took place in Athens (Evgenideion Foundation), on November 25,
2017. This event was organized by Greece’s leading energy portal, Energia.Gr,
under the auspices of the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) and followed
a day after IENE’s annual "Energy & Development” Conference.
The 2nd Energy Tech Forum
commenced with the screening if a video message by Dr. Vassilios Makios,
Professor emeritus at the University of Patras and head of the Corallia Unit, which
is Greece’s foremost technology innovation hub. In his message, Professor
Makios underlined the vast opportunities for technological innovation in
Greece, especially in the energy field, and the consequent prospects for
developing high-tech energy products. On behalf of the organizers, Mr. Costis
Stambolis, Director of Energia.gr and Executive Director of IENE, as well as
IENE’s Chairman, Mr. John Chadjivassiliades, contributed opening remarks.
From his part, Prof. Pantelis
Capros, Chairman of IENE’s Scientific Committee and Head of E3M Lab (NTUA),
stressed the necessity for promoting new technologies within the framework of
European Commission’s Strategy for Energy and Climate vis-à-vis 2050 and 2100,
which is due to be presented in approximately one year from now.
Some of Greece’s leading
researchers and executives involved in the promotion and development of energy
technologies actively participated by presenting novel approaches to technology
integration and adaptation. Among them were Dr. Spyros Kiartzis (Director
Alternative Energy Sources & New Technologies at Hellenic Petroleum SA),
Dr. Yannis Nikoletakos (P/V systems and Decentralized Electricity Generation
Division, CRES), Dr.Takis Haviaropoulos (Managing Director, iWind Renewables
SA) and Dr. Georgios Ageridis (Director of Energy Efficiency Division, CRES).
After key energy technology topics were analyzed by invited speakers,
presentations followed by authors of accepted papers.
