Iran and China Renew Hopes for Cooperation

China is keen on strengthening economic cooperation in energy, trade, infrastructure and particularly in China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif's visit to Beijing on Monday.

The "One Belt, one Road Initiative", also known as the Silk Road Economic Belt, was launched by China in 2013. It calls for the integration of Asia into a cohesive economic area through building infrastructure, increasing cultural exchanges, and broadening trade.

The two countries' foreign ministers met to discuss political, economic and strategic issues between Iran and China.

Chinese Foreign Minister expressed hope that Iran will continue to maintain its nuclear deal which was agreed over one year ago.

"We hope the nuclear deal will continue to be implemented comprehensively and effectively," he noted.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif also underlined that Iran has always considered China as a reliable ally.

Following two years of nuclear negotiations, Iran reached a comprehensive nuclear deal with the world's P5+1 powers; U.K., China, France, Russia, the U.S. and Germany in Vienna on July 14, 2015.
