Some of the region's top experts are gathering next week in Athens for IENE's 2nd "Energy and Geopolitics" colloquium. This year's highly topical event is organised under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in fact it will be conducted at the Ministry's main auditorium on March 5. Eminent academics from the field of international relations as well as energy professionals from the UK, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Israel and Turkey will be among the speakers and panelists of this high powered event which will be opened by addresses and interventions to be contributed by some Greece's, all party, senior political leaders.
The Colloquium has been structured along four main streams which cover: areas of geopolitical instability and a review of latest global and regional developments, oil and gas exploration and production, power generation, renewables and energy poverty; analysis of geopolitical trends and perspectives. The Colloquium is sponsored by the Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (ADMIE) and by KG Law firm, one of Greece's leading legal firms while it is promoted by Energia.gr, Greece's leading energy portal, which acts as media partner.
Energy and Geopolitics form an integral part of IENE activity which focuses on the workings of the Institute's 'geopolitics' committee. In addition to regular analysis and reporting conducted by the committee the Institute also organizes an evening course, at graduate level, entitled "An introduction to Energy and Geopolitics”. The latest course is scheduled to start on March 6 and will run until April 22 and is organized in partnership with the Institute of International Relations (IDIS) of Pantion University.
