Romania's energy output rose by an annual 1.4% in
the first eight months of the year, while imports
increased by 8.2%, the statistics office, INS,
said on Friday.
Romania's energy production totalled 14.55 million
tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) through August,
while imports reached 6.44 million TOE, INS said
in a statement.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that
would be produced by burning one metric tonne of
crude oil.
Romania's electricity output and imports stood at
a combined 41.77 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) in
the first eight months of 2014, up 8.5% on the
year.
The Romanian thermal power plants' production rose
by 5.5% to some 17.2 billion KWh through August.
The hydroelectric power stations' output rose
17.4% to 12.76 billion KWh. The production of the
country's sole nuclear power plant fell 0.6% to
some 7.64 billion KWh and the output of wind farms
was 2.95 billion KWh, up by 45.1 million KWh from
a year earlier. Solar plants produced 973.5
million KWh, up by 623.3 million KWh compared
to the first eight months of 2013.
Final electricity consumption through August fell
by an annual 1.1% to 32.96 billion KWh.
Romania’s electricity exports rose by 3.83 billion
KWh on the year to 4.63 billion KWh in the period
under review, INS said.
