Austria’s
OMV, France’s Total and Spain’s Repsol have
completed a 3D seismic acquisition campaign in
Bulgaria’s 1-21 Han-Asparuh offshore exploration
block, OMV said on Tuesday.
The 210-day survey, covering 7,740 square
kilometres (sq km), was the largest 3D seismic
survey in the Black Sea, the company said in a
press release on its web site. It is complemented
by an additional 2D seismic survey of 3,000 km
which was completed in October.
"The interpretation of the data will enable us and
our partners to define the drilling locations for
the two exploration wells that are planned during
2015 and 2016 in order to assess potential
hydrocarbon resources in this part of the Black
Sea," OMV executive board member Jaap Huijskes was
quoted as saying in the press release.
The 1-21 Han-Asparuh Block is located deep
offshore in the Bulgarian sector in the western
part of the Black Sea and covers an area of 14,220
sq km with water depths up to 2,200 metres.
Total has a 40% interest in the project while OMV
and Repsol own stakes of 30% each.
