On December 28 the Institute sent to its members the latest IENE News issue (No 11) which corresponds to the Autumn/Winter 2023 period. (here) In it’s editorial entitled, “When basic tenets of energy collide” the question is put forward as to how long the observed market tranquility is going to last in view of rising geopolitical turbulence and destabilisation concerns in the broader region. Another important question arising from the observed economic and political instability,at least in Europe, has to do with the much touted energy transition and EU’s single mindedness of aggressively pursued green policies which are already causing energy price rises, market uncertainty and consumer aggravation.

This latest IENE newsletter covers a host of developments over the past six months including important events which the Institute convened in different countries in SE Europe, including the highly successful 14th SE Energy Dialogue held in Thessaloniki on May 25-26, 2023 and the highly focused Budapest Nuclear Power conference jointly organised with London based New Nuclear Watch Institute on June 20. The newsletter also reports on the participation of IENE partners and personnel, in conferences and colloquia which other organisations held in the region. The newsletter also provides details of major IENE studies and research projects concluded over the past six months and presented to specialised audiences along with new projects which have been launched recently, including the issuing of a Green Bond, in cooperation with London based Climate Bond Initiative, which will fund an important photovoltaic project in Cyprus.

The results of IENE’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on July 10,2023, are also reported in this latest IENE News issue. The AGM elected unanimously the Chairman and the current Executive Committee of the Institute for the period 2023-2025. Hence, the Institute’s administration is as follows: Chairman: Costis Stambolis, Deputy Chairman:Christos Dimas, Secretary General: Costas Theofylactos, Members of the Exec.Committee : Mrs.Sofia Politipoulou, Mrs.Evgenia Giannini, Dr.Costas Karagiannakos, Nicholas Sofianos.

Furthermore the “IENE News” reports on a number of other interesting developments including the visit of an IENE delegation to Saudi Arabia in late September and the participation of the Institute’s chairman as speaker in the 7th Greek-British Symposium held in London on October 15-17 and jointly organised by the Greek and British governments. The chairman of IENE also participated as invited keynote speaker in a special event convened on October 13 by the the prestigious Athens Academy, through its Energy Committee, to discuss energy prices.
