On June 5, IENE successfully concluded its latest educational course which dealt with the operation of Greece’s electricity market in anticipation of the new energy market framework both in Europe and Greece and the implementation of the Target Model. The course, which focused on the domestic electricity and gas market, was organized successfully with the participation of 32 students, all coming from major energy companies and law firms in Greece. The course, which was supported by the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx), focused on the forthcoming launch of the Energy Exchange following the implementation of EU’s Target Model as well as the relevant changes that will take place during the transition process, which will lead to an integrated market for the benefit of participants and end consumers alike.

More specifically, this latest IENE seminar covered the following topics: (a) Introduction to Greece’s Energy Exchange, (b) Introduction to Day-Ahead Market, (c) Target Model Implementation in Greece and economic repercussions (for the companies and for the consumers), (d) Introduction to the Gas Market, (e) Introduction to the Balancing Market, (f) Introduction to Intraday Market, (g) Introduction to Forward Market (Legal financial products and Clearing House and Back Office) and (h) Key milestones and challenges of the new electricity market in Greece. The main purpose of the seminar was to discuss and analyse the regulatory and legislative issues as well as the operational aspects of Greece’s new electricity market following the creation of the four new markets. The seminar also included one lecture on the anticipated operation of the gas market within the new Energy Exchange framework, while a total of 14 lecturers contributed to this pioneering energy course.

The seminar's instructors included some of the most prominent experts of the Greek energy sector, with deep knowledge of the electricity and gas markets as well as executives of the newly established Hellenic Energy Exchange.

All lectures took place between 17:00 and 20:00 at the OTE Academy in Maroussi, near Athens, between May 15 and June 5, 2019.

IENE is now planning to run a 2nd series of courses next September and October. Further information will become available shortly through iene.eu.
