IENE’s research Associate, Alexandros Perellis, participated in the Connected Cars Conference 2018, which was held in Athens on the October24 and was organized by Boussias Conferences. More specifically, Mr. Perellis, following the completion of IENE’s major study on the "Prospects for the Electric Vehicle Market in Greece, and SEE and Potential business opportunities”, made a presentation on the challenges that electric mobility is facing in the region of South East Europe. In his presentation Mr. Perellis also outlined the environmental benefits, which can accrue and can be exploited with the adoption of new technologies, and also discussed how a potential transition to EVs could affect the region’s economic activity.
Furthermore, Mr. Perellis demonstrated the potential challenges for the power generation and distribution system as related to mass EV introduction. In order to showcase such challenges, a worst case-scenario of intra-hour loads with simultaneous plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging of an expected number of consumers based on selected scenarios was presented. Concluding, Mr. Perellis informed the participants on the research activities of IENE with regard to electric mobility, which are mainly focused on the publication of a bimonthly newsletter and in carrying out a series of studies as well asmonitoring the technology and market development of EVs.
