IENE’s flagship regional study “South East Europe Energy Outlook 2025/2026” presentation, as well as an analysis of the current regional energy markets challenges will be at the focus of a special half-day event organized by the Institute in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS). This forthcoming IENE event will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the premises of the Chamber in Belgrade, Serbia.
This major regional event will bring together distinguished academic speakers, policymakers, industry experts, market professionals and senior executives from Greece and Serbia to examine the major developments shaping the energy landscape of South-East Europe. It will provide a unique platform for dialogue on regional energy security, market integration, decarbonisation and investment opportunities at a time of profound geopolitical and technological change. Moreover, the presentation of IENE's “South East Europe Energy Outlook 2025/2026”, the central feature of the event, offers a comprehensive assessment of energy trends, market developments and investment prospects across South-East Europe.
More specifically, the agenda of this joint IENE-CCIS conference will cover:
- South-East Europe's evolving geo-economic and geostrategic role within the wider European and global energy landscape.
- The changing architecture of regional energy systems in the context of accelerated electrification, digitalisation and decarbonisation.
- The development and deployment of renewable energy sources (RES), nuclear power and other low-carbon technologies to enhance energy resilience and competitiveness.
- Regional energy security and the risks associated with supply disruptions, critical infrastructure vulnerabilities, cyber-attacks, geopolitical tensions and political blockades.
- Special focus on West Balkans in view of enhanced EU accession prospects.
- The development of regional electricity and natural gas markets and their progressive integration into the EU's Single Energy Market.
- Regulatory reforms, investment frameworks and financial mechanisms required to facilitate the energy transition in EU candidate and neighboring countries.
- The gradual establishment and expansion of carbon markets throughout South-East Europe in alignment with, or as part of, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
- The impact of the CBAM regulation on regional electricity trade in West Balkans.
- Emerging investment opportunities and priorities for strengthening regional energy cooperation and infrastructure.
The speakers of this highly topical conference, among others, will include Mr. Mihailo Mihailovic, IENE Partner & Conference Moderator, Mr. Costis Stambolis, Chairman & Executive Director of IENE, Mr. Konstantinos Theofylaktos, Deputy Chairman of IENE and Chairman of the Institute’s Energy Efficiency Committee, and Mr. Nikos Sofianos, General Secretary of IENE and Chairman of the Institute’s RES Committee, who, between them, will present and discuss the “Outlook” report.
