FYROM's energy regulator allowed
companies with over 50 employees and total
annual revenue or assets of over 10 million euro
($13.8 million) to buy electricity on the open
market as of April 1, it said on Wednesday.
The move is in line with the country's action
plan for the liberalisation of its electricity
market, which was approved in September, the
regulator told SeeNews in a statement.
The latest market opening will affect over 220
companies, which can expect to buy electricity
at up to 25% lower prices, daily Vecer reported
on Tuesday.
To date, 70 power producers have been awarded
power trading licenses, and three -
EVN-Snabduvanje, GEN-I and EDS - hold power
supplier licences, the daily added.
The liberalisation of the power market for all
consumers, including households, is planned for
January 1, 2015, the regulatory energy
commission said in October.
The partial liberalisation of the electricity
market for some industrial consumers began in
2008.
