The European Parliament believes that the pipeline South Stream should
not be built according to a resolution made by the representatives of
several European parties, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
The
document must be voted today and summarizes positions of debates about
Russian pressure on neighboring countries and actions to destabilize the
Eastern Ukraine. European deputies also required the termination of gas
imports if necessary. Arguments were mainly related to Russia's support
for separatists in Ukraine. Iliana Jotova, part of the Bulgarian
Socialist Party believes that the countries of Eastern Europe will
suffer much more than these sanctions.
She recalled the gas crisis in
2009 when Bulgaria lost nearly 240 million euros and thinks that the
affected countries would be those who wanted to ensure its energy
security through this project, including Bulgaria and Greece.
