EURELECTRIC Signs Up to EU-funded Project on Electric Buses

Friday, 24 January 2014

A strong commitment for cleaner urban transport was demonstrated with the launch yesterday of the Zero Emission Urban Bus System (ZeEUS) project, one of the largest electromobility projects funded by the European Commission. EURELECTRIC is one of 40 partners in the 42-month project, which is funded under the Commission's 7th Framework Programme.

The ZeEUS project will demonstrate different concepts concerning electric buses and give recommendations for encouraging their deployment across Europe. The project will also look at ways to ensure an optimal interaction with the power grid and charging infrastructure integration.

Electricity, notes EURELECTRIC in a press statement, is a widely available energy vector produced all across Europe. Its greater use in transport can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and simultaneously help to promote fuel diversification, strengthen energy security and improve air quality. As electricity continues to decarbonise, its application in the transport sector will bring even greater benefits.

Furthermore, EURELECTRIC believes that a decarbonised bus system will be key to making our cities and transport system more sustainable.EURELECTRIC will be a key partner in disseminating the project's results to wider electricity sector stakeholders. EURELECTRIC will also contribute technical expertise via its task force on e-mobility.
