The gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Turkey could go live within two years, the Bulgarian energy minister said.
A bilateral agreement on the specifics for the
construction works and the parameters of the 114 kilometer gas interconnector
project is expected to be signed in March, Dragomir Stoynev said in a press
release issued after he met with Turkish counterpart Taner Yıldız in Sofia on
Friday, January 24.
The construction of the gas interconnector on Bulgarian
territory has been awarded to Bulgarian gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz,
the statement said, adding that a constructor for the Turkish part of the
pipeline is yet to be chosen.
The energy ministry also said Bulgarian state-owned electricity company NEK and a Turkish partner may enter into a joint venture to boost the capacity for the export of electricity to Turkey. The new company will be registered in Turkey.
NEK is a subsidiary of the state-run Bulgarian Energy Holding.
