Bilgin Enerji to purchase OMV Samsun Elektrik Uretim AS

Turkey-based Bilgin Enerji announced on Wednesday that the company will buy OMV Samsun Elektrik Uretim Sanayi ve Ticaret AS, (OMV Samsun Electric Production, Industry and Trade) - a natural gas combined cycle plant located in the Samsun province in Turkey's Black Sea region.

According to the announcement, the sale process is expected to finalize by the fourth quarter of 2018 after official approval has been received from Turkey's Competition Authority and other related authorities.

Commenting on the purchase agreement, Tolga Bilgin, executive president of Bilgin Enerji, stated the purchase of OMV's Samsun facility would help the company raise its installed total capacity to 1,760 megawatts (MW) as part of the company's aim to increase both the company's renewable energy portfolio and market share.

According to the OMV webpage, the company invested over €600 million to build a 890 MW natural gas combined power plant in Terme borough located in the Samsun province.

The plant started its operation in 2013 and currently its capacity meets approximately 3 percent of Turkey's total power demand.
