As the year draws to a close, a small team from IENE's staff has been busy with the preparation of the weekly newsletters, year end review reports, preparatory work for a number of studies, and with high level contacts in Greece and other European countries in an effort to finalize details for the Institute'sactivities programme for 2020. In this context the annual report for 2018, which also contains a detailed account of first half of 2019 activities, was completed and uploaded on IENE's website, while an initial list of events for next year has also been finalized and can be seen in the IENE events section of this site.

It is worth noting the first such activity for next year, which is the forthcoming workshop jointly organized by IENE and Eurogas in Brussels on January 22. Entitled as " Gas supply and competition in SE Europe" this particular event intends to throw ample light on latest developments in the region's vibrant gas markets. High level speakers and panelists from man countries of the region, including Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Cyprus and from Eurogas in Brussels, have already confirmed their participation. Next in line of events is IENE's annual New Year evening get together which is scheduled for Monday, January 27 and will take place at the Electra Palace Hotel in central Athens. This is a great social occasion where all members and friends of IENE are invited to attend free for drinks and buffet dinner and where the traditional "vasilopita" cake is broken and offered to everyone present. Following that two intensive courses aimed at mid career professionals are planned in February and March. The first one will focus on natural gas markets and how these have been changing over the last few years following the introduction of gas hub trading and the growing presence of LNG. The second one, which is to be conducted for the second year running in association with the Institute of International Studies of Pantion University, provides an "introduction on Energy and Geopolitics". Detailed announcements for both courses will follow early in the new year.

Preparations are also in progress for IENE's two international events in 2020 which include the 2nd Vienna Energy Transition Forum, to take place in Vienna early in May and the 12th SE Europe Energy Dialogue, which will be held in Thessaloniki on June 25/26.A number of specialist one day seminars on energy efficiency, energy investments and new fuels for transportation are also planned in the first half of next year.

Next year is also the year when the next edition of the Institute's major study, the "SEE Energy Outlook 2020" is scheduled for publication. Already assignments have been agreed with the various contributors in the 15 core country group, which the 2020 Outlook will cover, while another group of experts have been assigned work to cover the various sectorial analyses. A progress report on this highly relevant regional IENE study is planned for early April so that all members are well informed on this major project.

IENE staff and associates sincerely wish to all members a very productiveand prosperous New Yearwith health, work satisfaction, professional success and eventually happiness!
