27th Annual National Energy and Development Conference by IENE: Focus on Energy Transformation and the Intersection of Geopolitics with Energy Security

27th Annual National Energy and Development Conference by IENE: Focus on Energy Transformation and the Intersection of Geopolitics with Energy SecurityThe interplay of energy security with geopolitics and the challenges of energy sector transformation will be at the center of the 27th annual Energy & Development National Conference organized by the Institute of Energy of South East Europe (IENE) on 14-15 November 2023

More than 60 distinguished speakers and panelists from Greece and abroad have already confirmed their participation at the conference. These speakers represent a diverse range of backgrounds, including companies, research centers, the academic community, and international organizations while significant contributions are expected to be made by renowned experts and authoritative analysts.

The participation of top executives from Greek and international energy companies, along with representatives from government and public bodies, will stimulate a productive dialogue on energy sector concerns and geopolitical developments in the broader Southeast European and Eastern Mediterranean region. Of particular interest will be the presentation of the “World Energy Outlook 2023” report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

This year's event will place special emphasis on matters of both domestic and European significance. Concerning Greek energy issues the focus will be on bilateral contracts (PPAs) related to RES, Hydrogen and CCUS, the rapidly evolving natural gas market, and the potential development of hydrocarbons. Additionally, given the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, now in its second year, and the latest Middle East crisis, following Hama’s assault against Israel, discussions will cover EU's energy security strategy and the substantial challenges arising from the widespread adoption of RES.

The Conference is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Ministry of Development, the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The main sponsors of the Conference are Helleniq Energy, Motor Oil, and TERNA Energy. Supporters include Energean, the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) S.A., the Kyriakidis-Georgopoulos law firm (KG Law Firm), the Mytileneos Group, the energy services company EnSCo, and CENERGY of the Viohalco Group. Communication sponsors of the Conference are the energy information portal Energia.gr, NE Global, EnergyPress, allazorevma.gr, and the Hellenic Edition of Foreign Affairs.
