Turkey's Power Generation Falls 0.44% in Dec. 2018

Turkey's electricity production decreased by 0.44 percent in December compared to the same month of 2017, according to the latest data revealed by the country's energy watchdog.

Total production fell to approximately 25.67 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) from 25.79 million kWh in December 2017, Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced on Thursday in its electricity market report for December 2018. Turkey mainly produced 27.26 percent of its electricity from natural gas, 21.86 percent from imported coal, 14.82 percent from lignite and 15.56 percent from hydropower plants. Wind, geothermal, kinetic energy from rivers, hard coal, biomass, fuel oil, solar, diesel and LNG supplied the remaining share.

Turkey's installed electricity capacity was up 2.06 percent in December on a yearly basis. Natural gas power plants comprised 30.95 percent, while 24.69 percent came from hydropower plants, lignite power plants generated 11.54 percent and 6.51 percent came from wind energy. Imported coal, hard coal, hydro, geothermal, fuel oil, biomass and solar power were the other contributors to Turkey's installed capacity.
