Turkey's electricity consumption increased by 1.69 percent in September compared to the same month last year, according to Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry on Friday.
The country's power consumption reached 24.21 billion kilowatt-hours in September. Turkey produced 24.23 gigawatt-hours of electricity in September 2018 - a production increase of 1.87 percent compared to the same month of 2017.
Turkey produced 36.03 percent of September's electricity from natural gas power plants while 15.10 percent came from hydro plants and 21.66 percent from imported coal. Local coal plants contributed 16.50 percent to electricity generation, wind plants constituted 7 percent and the remaining 3.71 percent of electricity production was generated from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.
- Electricity imports decrease by 21.46 percent
Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 21.46 percent reaching 204.56 million kilowatt-hours compared to 260.49 million kilowatt-hours in September last year.
Turkey's electricity exports to neighboring countries also decreased by 5.93 percent with 227.81 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electricity exports in September last year amounted to 242.19 million kilowatt-hours.
