Turkey's Electricity Consumption Down 1.74% in Dec. '18

Turkey's electricity consumption decreased by 1.74 percent in December compared to the same month of 2017, according to Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry on Tuesday.

The country's power consumption was 25.15 billion kilowatt-hours in December. Turkey produced 25.41 gigawatt-hours of electricity in December 2018 - a production decrease of 0.98 percent compared to the same month of 2017.

Turkey produced 27.19 percent of December's electricity from natural gas power plants while 22.91 percent came from hydro plants and 22.04 percent from imported coal.

Local coal plants contributed 16.91 percent to electricity generation, wind plants constituted 6.54 percent and the remaining 4.41 percent of electricity production was generated from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.

Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 43 percent and reached 132.46 million kilowatt-hours compared to 232.68 million kilowatt-hours in December 2017. In addition, the country's electricity exports to neighboring countries increased by 30 percent to 400.38 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electricity exports in December 2017 amounted to 307.50 million kilowatt-hours.

Turkey's total installed power capacity reached 88.34 thousand megawatts by the end of November, according to official figures. However, the energy ministry has yet to release data on December's installed capacity.
