Turkey's Elect. Market Trade Volume Rises 45% in Jan.

Turkey's day-ahead spot electricity market's trade volume increased by 45.84% in January compared to the same month of 2019, according to data provided by Turkey's Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST) on Monday. The trade volume in the day-ahead spot electricity market, which EXIST started to operate in 2015, registered at 4.6 billion Turkish liras in January compared to 3.16 billion liras in January 2019.

EXIST reported a transaction of 14.48 million megawatt-hours in the day-ahead market in January. The highest trade volume on a daily basis was recorded on Jan. 10 at 164.2 million liras, while the lowest occurred on Jan. 1 with 109.7 million liras.

In January, the average electricity rate for one-megawatt hour in the day-ahead spot market was calculated as 314.61 liras. Turkey's energy exchange company, responsible for operating energy trade, including power and gas commodities provides counter-party guarantees in its transactions while ensuring equal access to all market participants.
