Turkey Agrees to Seek Nod from Central Govt for Oil Exports from Iraq

Tuesday, 03 December 2013

Turkish energy minister Taner Yildiz and Iraqi deputy prime minister for energy affairs Hussain al-Shahristani have agreed that oil exports from Iraq will require the approval of Iraq's central government, Turkish media reported.

Hussain al-Shahristani announced the agreement at a press conference after a meeting with Yildiz in Iraq, news agency Anadolu Ajansi reported on Sunday.

Last month, Turkish media reported that Turkey was in talks with the government of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region to conduct exploration activities in 13 oil and gas blocks in the region via the state-backed Turkish Energy Company.
