Scotland's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Completes Build

Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm Beatrice has seen all of its 84 wind turbines installed after three years of construction, project partner SSE Renewables announced on Wednesday. The total installed capacity of 588 megawatts for the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited is enough to provide clean, low carbon energy to over 450,000 homes.

The farm, located approximately 13 kilometers from the Caithness coast, will be fully operational in summer 2019.

It is a joint venture development led by SSE Renewables with a 40% interest, along with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners with a 35% share and Red Rock Power Limited with a 25% stake. As the majority shareholder, SSE Renewables will manage operations and maintain the wind farm.

"The Scottish Government is determined to ensure the supply chain and economic benefits of this industry will be fully realized as we see consented sites built, and take forward further licensing opportunities to develop offshore wind in Scotland’s waters," said Scotland’s Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse.
