Russian Gas Deliveries Down 13% on Wed

Romania's state energy department said on Thursday deliveries of Russian gasto the country were 13% below plan on October 1but consumers wereunaffected by the cut.

Romania imports only 0.2 million cubic metres (cu m) of natural gas per day from Russia, while itsdomestic production stands at31 million cu m, the energy department said in a statement.

The country'sdaily consumption stands at some 22millioncu mof gas and the remaining 9.0 million cu m are being stored.

"There is no reason to worry, we must start getting used to such situations generated by [Russia's]Gazprom. The volumes we import are very small and Romania is ready to face this winter without the population being affected," energy minister Razvan Nicolescu was quoted as saying in the statement.

Romania has stored some 2.8 billion cu m of natural gas so far, 1.0 billion cu m above the quantityrequired by the local energy regulator, he added.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has led to disruptions in Russian gas deliveries to Europe in the last few weeks and has underscoredthe European countries' need to diversify energy sources.
