Russia Allots 25 Nuclear Education Places to Turkey

The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom allocated a quota for 25 Turkish students to complete a Master's degree in nuclear energy in St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the Russian company announced on Friday.

The allocation is part of the staff training program for Turkey's first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Akkuyu covering thermal and electrical power, in which all study expenses will be borne by Russia. The students will be provided with accommodation and will receive a monthly scholarship of 32,000 rubles or $500, according to the company's statement.

In line with the program, Akkuyu NPP's project company, Akkuyu Nuclear, will also cover the payment of the students' first entry visas to the country in addition to one free annual air ticket and airport transfers. The application deadline for the 2019-2021 academic year starting Sept. 1 is April 1.

Rosatom actively cooperates and coordinates with Russia's education and science ministry along with the ministries of other relevant countries to train nuclear energy experts worldwide.
