The European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Monday that Moldovan power
transmission company Moldelectrica will call tenders for the implementation of
a transmission network rehabilitation project worth about $50 million (37.4
million euro).
The project will require the change of nine substations' power-transformers of
110/35/10 kilovolts (kV) and reactors of 400kV, the change of 330 kV and 110 kV
disconnectors, circuit breakers and related current transformers, the
reconstruction of 400 kV, 110kV and 35kV substations bays as well as 10 kV
switchgear cells and the reconstruction of five portions of 110 kV high voltage
lines, the EBRD said in a statement.
The tendering for these contracts is expected to start in early 2014.
Moldelectrica intends using a loan from the EBRD with parallel loan provided by
the European Investment Bank (EIB) plus grant funding from EU Neighbourhood
Investment Facility (NIF) for the rehabilitation project.
The upgrade will result in improved security and reliability of the
transmission network and energy efficiency.
