Gazprom Says Gas Supply to European Consumers Ramped Up

Russia's state-controlled energy giant Gazprom on Friday said gas supplies to European consumers were ramped up in line with existing contractual commitments and consumer demands.

According to preliminary data, Gazprom produced 378.1 billion cubic meters of gas between January and September of 2021, which is 17.3%, or 55.7 billion cubic meters, more than in the same period of last year.

The company said it increased its domestic supplies from the gas transmission system by 15.9%, or by 23.9 billion cubic meters, over the same period.

Its gas exports to the Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries amounted 145.8 billion cubic meters, highest level of supplies after it reached 149.2 billion cubic meters in 2018.

The nine-month output level is also higher than the figure for the same period of last year by 15.3%, or by 19.3 billion cubic meters.

Gazprom's natural gas exports to Turkey climbed by 138.8% in the first nine months of the year, while exports to Germany increased by 33.2% and exports to Italy increased by 14.2%.

Pointing out that Gazprom continues to deliver gas to Europe in accordance with current contractual commitments, the company said books transport capacities for individual destinations on the basis of such requests and opportunities for optimization of the capacity portfolio.

Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov also said on Tuesday that his country was closely following the recent developments in the European spot natural gas market, noting that “Gazprom is currently exporting record levels of natural gas to Europe and more than fulfilling its all of its obligations.'

Russia was accused of reducing its natural gas exports to Europe despite global shortfalls, causing international prices to rise, to the consternation of world markets.

Gas prices in Europe reached almost $1,200 per 1,000 cubic meters at the opening of the trading session on October 1, according to ICE data.
