Gas Prices Retreat With Supplies to Europe Unaffected By Russian Attack on Ukraine

Natural gas prices in Europe fell 12% from Friday's closing price of €131 per megawatt-hour to €115 on Monday. Natural gas prices for April futures contracts on the TTF, the Netherlands-based virtual natural gas trading point, hit historical levels at €345 per megawatt-hour on March 7.

Since then prices have retreated from record highs as Europe's gas infrastructure and flow to Europe remains unaffected by the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

'Gazprom supplies Russian gas for transit through Ukrainian territory as per normal, in accordance with requests of European consumers - 109.5 million cubic meters as of March 14,' the spokesman of Russia's gas giant, Gazprom, Sergey Kupriyanov said on Monday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made similar remarks last week during a meeting with government members.

Russia is fulfilling all its energy supply obligations, Putin said, adding that the natural gas network to Europe via Ukraine is operating at full capacity.
