F. La Camera Appointed as New Irena Director-General

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly selected Francesco La Camera to be the next Director-General of IRENA, the agency announced in a statement on Sunday.

The appointment took place during IRENA's 9th Assembly. La Camera will take office on April 4, 2019, succeeding the outgoing Director-General Adnan Z. Amin, who has been in the role since 2011. According to the statement, La Camera currently serves as the Director General for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate at the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land & Sea.

In addition, La Camera led the EU and Italian negotiation teams at the climate COP 20 in Lima and was head of the Italian delegation at the three previous COP meetings. La Camera is elected for a term of four years. After assuming office as the Director-General, he will lead the IRENA Secretariat and the implementation of the Agency’s work program and budget.
