Eni Begins Construction of PV Plant in Sardinia

Italian company Eni's subsidiary company Eni New Energy SpA has started construction of a photovoltaic plant, with a peak installed capacity of 31 MW (megawatts), at the Porto Torres industrial site located in Sassari, Sardinia, the company announced in a statement Monday.

"About 70 percent of the energy produced every year, approximately 51 GWh (gigawatt-hours), will be used by the companies operating at the industrial site, enabling around 26,000 tonnes less in annual CO2 emissions," the company stated. The Porto Torres photovoltaic project is part of the Progetto Italia initiatives launched by Eni in 2016 and will be completed by the end of 2019.

This is the second plant built in Eni-owned industrial areas in Sardinia following the construction of the 26-megawatt Assemini plant, which was completed in 2018.
