Voltalia Obtains Licence for Second Solar PV Project in Albania

Albania's energy regulator, ERE, said it has licensed Spitalla Solar, a special purpose vehicle of French renewables company Voltalia, for the development of a 90 MW solar photovoltaic plant near the Adriatic city of Durres, Voltalia's second solar project in the country.

Spitalla Solar can generate energy at the PV plant for the next 30 years, ERE said in a licensing notice last week.

In December, Voltalia said it had launched construction works on the project at the Spitalla site. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for the second half of 2027.

In 2021, Voltalia won a tender for the construction and operation of the planned solar park in Spitalla, a project supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Voltalia commissioned its 140 MW Karavasta power plant located near the southwestern city of Fier in December 2023.
