Chile’s Quillagua site saw the inauguration of Latin America’s largest photovoltaic plant with battery storage.
Developed by British company Contour Global, the plant combines 452,000 solar panels and 267 storage modules.
It delivers 200 megawatts of power for 6.2 hours after sunset, with a storage capacity of 1.2 gigawatt-hours. The facility supplies electricity to approximately 122,000 homes and marks a major step forward in Chile’s energy transition by providing solar power during nighttime and stabilizing the grid.
