Britain's National Energy System Operator has issued an electricity margin ?notice for Wednesday evening, asking market ?participants to make any additional generation capacity available during the solar eclipse.
As of 0621 ?GMT, NESO said the notice ?covered the period from 1700 GMT ?to 1900 GMT, when there is ?a system margin shortfall of 1,200 ?megawatts compared with the amount it would like to be available.
"The notice has been issued ?as a precautionary measure to the ?market due to the solar eclipse and there ?is ?no risk to customer electricity supplies," a NESO spokesperson said in a statement.
The notice was a "routine tool" asking ?market participants ?to make ?any additional generation capacity they may have available, they ?added.
Grid operators across Europe have ?put ?in place preparatory measures to handle an expected drop in solar power generation during ?the ?eclipse, which is expected ?from 1715 GMT to 1930 GMT on Wednesday.
