New long?term solution with competitive transit tariffs enhances the attractiveness of the Vertical Corridor. The participating Transmission System Operators (TSOs) –DESFA (Greece), BULGARTRANSGAZ (Bulgaria), TRANSGAZ (Romania), VESTMOLDTRANSGAZ (Moldova), GTSOU (Ukraine) – as well as the independent operator ICGB, reached today in Athens a mutually acceptable proposal with the European Commission, for the commercial promotion of the Trans-Balkan Pipeline/ Vertical Corridor, following intensive cooperation and multiple consultations. In a rapidly evolving energy landscape, today’s agreement marks a milestone for the region’s energy integration by shaping a resilient, competitive, and reliable energy corridor in Southeastern and Central Europe.
The new methodology, agreed during a teleconference with the European Commission and the presence of ACER and the respective National Regulatory Authorities, is fully aligned with the EU acquis. The agreement signals a transition to a long?term solution, fully compatible with the EU Regulations, with a transparent pricing framework across the entire length of the Corridor, in line with the provisions of the EU Regulation 2017/460. The agreed commercial approach introduces new tariffs that make the Vertical Corridor a highly competitive and strategic energy artery for Southeastern and Central Europe at a particularly critical moment for the continent’s energy security.
More specifically, the TSOs will for the first time offer the full range of capacity products on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis, starting from the gas year 2026-2027(October 26) at a highly competitive tariff. This pricing approach significantly increases the attractiveness of the offered products, while providing users with enhanced cost visibility and the ability for long?term energy planning. In this way, the Vertical Corridor is consolidated as a crucial energy supply route for the region and as a vital tool for strengthening Europe’s diversification and energy security.
For the transitional period until the full implementation of the new products, the TSOs are submitting a request to the competent national regulatory authorities to extend the availability of existing products until October 2026, supporting Ukraine’s security of supply during the transition phase.
