Enel Installs 110 EV Fast Charging Stations in Italy

Enel installed 110 Fast Recharge stations for electric vehicles in Italy as part of the EVA+ (Electric Vehicles Arteries in Italy and Austria) project, the Italian energy company announced Monday.

The 50-kilowatt Fast Recharge stations with 220 charging points are compatible with all electric vehicles on the market, and allow users to fully charge their vehicles in about 20 minutes, according to the statement. "The charging infrastructure is mainly located in areas adjacent to motorway entrances so it can also be used by people who use electric vehicles for long-distance journeys with stops compatible with charging times, in places such as shopping centers," Enel said.

Customers can use the Enel X Recharge application to locate the EVA+ stations in Italy and recharge their cars in a few simple steps, it added.

Additionally, 20 charging stations with 40 charging points have been installed in Austria by project partner Verbund's subsidiary, Smatrics. A total of 200 fast charging stations (180 in Italy and 20 in Austria) are going to be installed as part of the EVA+ program which was officially launched on Jan. 19, 2017 in Brussels, and has a duration of 33 months.

The program's €8.5 million budget is co-financed up to 50 percent by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility. The project will contribute to the realization of the EC's Trans-European Transport Network, which was created to support the construction and the modernization of transport infrastructure, enabling the integration of two member states into a fast charge network across the EU.

The EVA+ brings together Enel, as coordinator, and Austria's main utility Verbund with some of the leading manufacturers of electric vehicles in the world, such as Renault, Nissan, BMW Group and Volkswagen Group Italia represented by the Volkswagen and Audi brands.
