Education at the core of IENE's activities

Leveraging its accumulated knowledge and experience in the energy sector as well as its close links with the energy community, the Institute of Energy for South-East Europe (IENE) has placed education at the center of its activities. Over the last 12 months, IENE has managed to develop a series of high level educational courses responding to the needs of energy professionals and companies. These courses cover specialized areas such as electricity markets, Renewable Energy Sources (RES), energy efficiency, digitization, gas markets and more.

With education being an integral part of its remit, IENE provides to executives in the broader energy sector as well as to young professionals the opportunity to be informed in depth on key aspects of the energy chain and get acquainted with the special features of the domestic and regional energy market.

Indicatively, IENE recently held courses in which participants had the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge and market insights on three of the most dynamic energy sub sectors: RES, Energy Efficiency and the domestic and regional electricity market.

More specifically, in the 32-hour Seminar entitled "Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Development" which was held online during May 19 - June 10, 2021, distinguished scientists and experts from the RES Committee of IENE as well as from the RES industry and the electricity market, presented the basic modules of RES, with special reference to technologies, the institutional framework and financing methods.

Earlier this year, in March (3/3 - 31/3) of 2021, IENE held online a 40-hour course on "Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Industry". During the course, renowned scientists and experts in the field presented the methods and ways to improve energy efficiency in both buildings and industry as well as the existing legal framework, energy audit methodology and feasibility studies of energy saving projects. Upon completion of the courses, an optional two-month internship followed under the guidance of the course lecturers.

IENE is now planning to launch a new series of seminars for the period September - December 2021, which will cover a number of diverse topics such as: Managing Energy Markets in a Complex World, the New Natural Gas Market, Electricity Market Operation and Competition and Introduction to Energy and Geopolitics.

Referring to the educational work of IENE, the Chairman and Executive Director of the Institute, Mr. Costis Stambolis, noted: "Having a privileged position and powerful insights in the energy field, as well as an extensive network of partners in Greece and abroad, IENE is willing to share its know-how with those who are professionally engaged in the energy sector and wish to lead developments during this crucial transition phase. IENE has now placed education at the core of its activities and aspires to provide first class educational courses to the business community and to anyone interested to learn".
