Croatia's environment ministry said it
has determined the project for the construction of
a combined heat and power (CHP) unit at thermal
power plant (TPP) Osijek is acceptable from an
environmental point of view provided certain
measures are taken.
The ministry said last week it issued the decision
at the request of state-owned energy company HEP
and power transmission system operator, HOPS,
stating that the project would pose no risk if
environmental protection and monitoring measures
prescribed by the ministry and by Croatian law are
implemented.
HEP has said the planned CHP unit will have an
installed electric power capacity of up to 500
megawatts (MW) and a thermal power capacity of up
to 160 MW.
HEP group (www.hep.hr) owns and operates over
4,000 MW of installed generation capacity and 974
MW of heat production capacity, including 25
hydroelectric plants and eight thermal power
plants fired by oil, natural gas or coal.
