BP appointed Joe Murphy as its new head of country for Turkey, BP Turkey announced on Thursday. According to the statement, Murphy, who started his new role in May 2019, is now BP's senior country representative for Turkey whose role will include supporting the implementation of BP's strategy while overseeing government relations and external affairs on behalf of all BP businesses in the country.
He will also continue with his current responsibilities as vice president of the $40 billion Southern Corridor project to lead the development of the Shah Deniz field and the Southern Corridor that will, for the first time, bring natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe.
Murphy said the company's presence in Turkey is proof of the country's strategic importance for BP, which with BP's 100-year experience in energy projects, is set to take it to the center of the European energy market. The new head, with 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, has worked in the upstream, downstream and chemical sectors, and has taken on both head office and consultancy roles.
He has worked in Azerbaijan, Egypt, Vietnam, the U.S., Qatar and the U.K.
