Workshop IENE-TEE

Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Industry

Friday 3 April 2026

Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), 4 Nikis str. Athens

The Workshop under the more specific title: "Energy Without Losses: Savings & Sustainability in Buildings and Industry", is organized by IENE, in collaboration with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE). The event will take place on Friday, April 3, 2026, at TEE’s conference facility in Central Athens, and comes to highlight the decisive role of energy efficiency in the new energy landscape. In a period of intense geopolitical and economic challenges, energy conservation is the most direct, efficient and sustainable mechanism for reducing energy costs, enhancing competitiveness and achieving national and European climate goals.

The first part of the Workshop will present an overall view of energy efficiency in buildings, analyzing the current institutional framework, the role of the KENAK and TOTEE Directives (as applied in Greece), as well as the prospects for upgrading the country's building stock. At the same time, developments in energy audits in industry are presented, with references to the International, European and Greek experience, highlighting the importance of consistent monitoring and improvement of energy efficiency in productive sectors.

Particular emphasis is to be given on recent developments at European level, and in particular on the new Directive 2023/1791 on energy efficiency, which places increased obligations on Member States and businesses. In this context, the Workshop will examine whether the existing energy inspection system meets the new requirements and what institutional or technical adjustments are required, through dialogue with representatives of the State, the market and professional bodies.

Furthermore, the Workshop will highlight the crucial role of financial mechanisms and banks in the implementation of energy efficiency projects, both in buildings and in industry. The discussion will cover the available national and European tools, the contribution of banks and investment schemes, as well as good practices from programs that support energy efficiency investments, highlighting the need for a stable and predictable financing environment.

Through the participation of institutional representatives, expert scientists and market executives, the event aspires to attract strong interest from professionals and companies, and thus form an important forum for the exchange of views and the formulation of policy proposals. The Workshop is part of IENE's overall initiative to promote energy efficiency and thus contribute to the public debate on a low-emission economy, with an emphasis on sustainability, technological innovation and the country's energy security.
