Turkey Adds 377 MW of Installed Wind Capacity in 1H17

Turkey added 377 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity to reach 6,483 MW in total wind capacity in the first half of 2017, according to Turkish Wind Energy Association's (TUREB) report released on Monday.

In first half of the year, more than 440 thousand households began to receive electricity from wind energy. In total, wind energy provided 7.5 million Turkish homes with electricity.

According to TUREB, in the first half year's report, more than 75 percent of wind farms are located in the Aegean and Marmara regions of Turkey.

The Izmir province in the Aegean region saw the most installed wind capacity with 1,333 MW, while Balikesir ranked second with 1,069 MW and Manisa in Western Turkey followed in third place with 650 MW.

"Turkey has 32 wind farms under construction with a total of 808 MW," the report read.

Turkey's installed wind capacity reached 6,106 MW in 2016.
