IENE’s recognition as an important regional energy think tank and forum is reflected on the invitations it receives almost daily for participation by its executives and associates in international and regional conferences and workshops. Following the participation of Nikolaos Sofianos, IENE Research Co-ordinator, to the regional energy policy conference organized by Albania’s Ministry of Energy (see report on this site of November 2, 2016), IENE’s Chairman, Mr. John Chadjivassiliadis and IENE’s Head of Energy Efficiency Committee, Mr. Costas Theofylaktos, contributed respectively to recent important energy gatherings held in Germany and in Paris.

John Chadjivassiliadis, Chairman of IENE, participated in the international conference on Solar Technologies & Hybrid Mini Grids to Improve Energy Access, organized by OTTI (Ostbayerisches Technologie-Transfer-Institut e.V.) and held in Bad Hersfeld, Germany, on 21-23 September, 2016.

John is member of the Scientific Committee of the conference, which takes place every two years in Europe. At the conference he co-chaired the session for Rural Electricity. The main objective of the conference and its prime challenge is to consolidate the knowledge around solutions that have proven to work and to provide information on different models for financing, promoting attractive business models and the application of suitable technologies. For example innovative PV and hybrid mini-grids are considered a viable solution for overcoming the lack of access to electricity, towards sustainable energy for all.

170 delegates from 38 countries in five continents participated in this ground breaking international conference contributing more than 70 papers in oral and poster presentations. Further details and the conference proceedings can be obtained through www.otti.eu

Costas Theofylaktos, member of IENE’s Executive Committee and Chairman of the Institute’s Energy Efficiency Group was invited by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to attend "IEA’s High-level Conference on Energy Efficiency – Innovative action to accelerate Progress” which took place in Paris, on 13-14th of October 2016 (see www.iea.org for conference programme and relevant information).

The conference brought together senior members of the global Energy Efficiency community, as Ministers, senior policy makers, business leaders from many world-leading international companies, who discussed the key issues facing for implementing energy efficiency actions and they shared success stories and lessons learnt. They also discussed new policy approaches and new businesses required as well as new finance for the further penetration of energy efficiency. Finally distinguished panelists shared their global experience on delivering efficiency through innovative business models and new financing mechanisms.

During his stay Costas Theofylaktos had the opportunity to meet many delegates from different parts of the world (Kazakhstan, US, Ireland, Denmark, etc) and discuss with them potential co-operation but also inform them on the role and activities of IENE.
