Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office released the request for proposals for its first utility-scale wind power project of 400 megawatts on Tuesday.
Bidding for the 400 megawatt wind power project is set to close in January 2018.
A total of 25 companies qualified for the Dumat Al Jandal wind project.
The qualified companies will proceed to the proposal stage as either ‘managing members’ or ‘technical members’ – or both – based on their experience in delivering IPP projects of this scale, the Renewable Energy Project Development Office said.
Technical criteria for round one NREP projects include a 30 percent local content requirement.
"Dumat Al Jandal marks the second of two tenders for round one of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP)," the office said.
Round one of the NREP also comprises 300 megawatts of solar photovoltaic for which the bid opening will take place on Oct. 3 and winning bids will be announced on Nov. 27.
The Dumat Al Jandal and Sakaka projects will be backed by 20 and 25 year power purchase agreements respectively.
"Round two of the NREP will be launched before the end of this year, keeping us firmly on track to deliver 9.5 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2023," Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, said.
