Romania Earns EUR 2 Bln from Extra Excise on Fuel

The extra excise on fuel, amounting to 7 eurocents per liter of gasoline or diesel, has produced RON 8.46 billion (almost EUR 2 billion) for the Romanian state in almost three years, according to an official document cited by local Profit.ro.

Of the total, some RON 6.91 billion (EUR 1.5 billion) came from excises and about RON 1.55 billion (EUR 340 million) from the VAT on the extra excise.

In 2014, the state collected RON 2.2 billion (EUR 481 million) from this tax. In 2015 the extra excise on fuel brought revenues of RON 3 billion (EUR 657 million) to the state, which increased to RON 3.26 billion (EUR 714 billion) last year.

The extra excise was removed at the end of 2016.
