Rolls Royce to Supply Finnish Nuke Plant’s Automation

Rolls Royce will supply Finland's Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant's main automation, according to Finnish energy company Fennovoima on Thursday.

The Finnish company said that its project took a step forward as British Rolls Royce and French Schneider Electric were chosen as preferred automation suppliers subject to final contract negotiations.

It noted that Rolls Royce, better known for its luxury car brand, also provides nuclear products and services and will be the main supplier of protection automation systems for the plant.

"The deal – worth hundreds of millions of euros – includes both the design and delivery of automation systems," it said.

The company stressed that at this stage, the selection of automation providers is important for the progression of the nuclear power plant’s design work and licensing.

Fennovoima and the RAOS Project, a subsidiary of Rusatom Energy International and affiliate of Rosatom established to promote Russian nuclear technologies, are under contract to operate the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant.

According to the schedule agreed with Rosatom, the plant plans to produce electricity in 2024.
