Nordex Surpasses 2GW Wind Capacity in UK, Ireland

The Nordex Group, the world's leading suppliers of wind turbines, has reached a record high of over 2 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity in the U.K. and Ireland with a total of 862 wind turbines, the company announced on Thursday.

At typical capacity factors, this represents enough power for 1.3 million homes, resulting in a market share of installed turbines of around 20 percent in the Republic of Irelandand around 10 percent in the U.K.

According to the statement, just under 1.5 GW of out of the total is in the U.K.as well as what is fast approaching an installment of 600 MW in the Republic of Ireland.

"An additional milestone of three quarters of a gigawatt installed throughout both the Republic of Irelandand Northern Irelandhas also been reached," the statement read.

The Nordex Group installed its first turbines in the U.K.in 2001 and in Irelandin 2003.

The Group has installed more than 21 GW of wind energy capacity in over 25 markets. In 2016, the group generated revenues of €3.4 billion. The company currently employs a workforce of approx. 5,000.
