MEPs to Start Negotiations with Council on Safe Gas Supply for EU

The European Parliament, led by the rapporteur Jerzy Buzek from Poland, may start the negotiations with the Council based on the Industry Committee’s text on the draft directive on the EU market for natural gas, the EP said in a press release on April 19.

According to the Directive, all gas pipelines from third countries into the EU must comply fully with EU gas market rules on EU territory.

The Parliament also approved on April 19 the start of talks with the EU ministers on the draft regulation on European business statistics.

The MEPs confirmed the mandate, based on the Industry Committee’s vote on the on the draft regulation on European business statistics, by 320 votes in favour, 312 against, with 17 abstentions.

Negotiations with the Council may start immediately, the European Parliament said.
