Lebanon Requests Oil P/Line Construction for Kirkuk Oil

Lebanon sent a letter of request to the Iraqi economy and trade ministry for the construction of an oil pipeline from Kirkuk to Tripoli, Lebanese Energy and Water Resources Minister Arthur Nazarian confirmed at a conference in Beirut on Monday.

"Oil and natural gas are the most important things for a country's economy," Nazarian explained adding "We hope that under the current political and security conditions, Iraq and Lebanon's joint committee will realize the project soon."

The distance between the city of Kirkuk and Tripoli in Lebanon is 950 kilometers.

The minister also said that the country is about to end the licensing of oil and gas research in the offshore area of Lebanon.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, (EIA) Lebanon relies heavily on energy imports to meet its domestic demand.

"Lebanon's government estimates that there are potential natural gas reserves of 25 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) or more, located in its offshore territory, but until more exploration occurs, that figure remains speculative," according to the EIA.
