Οn October 31, the Centre of Excellence of the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the “Balkan Trust for Democracy” (BTD) organized in Tirana a special event on the regional cooperation and integration of energy markets in SE EuropeΟn October 31, the Centre of Excellence of the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the "Balkan Trust for Democracy” (BTD) organized in Tirana a special event on the regional cooperation and integration of energy markets in SE Europe.
This event aimed to present the main findings of the study "The Need of an Energy Strategy of South-East Europe”, and to raise the debate on the need to move forward the cooperation in the field of energy security. The study presentation was made by Ms Holta Ymeri, legal Expert, while the panel included Mr. Nicholas Sofianos, IENE’s Research Coordinator and Ms Gentiola Madhi, project coordinator of the Albanian Centre of Excellence.
Mr. Sofianos, actively participated in the event proceedings and contributed a presentation in the context of the Institute’s brief of monitoring and analyzing latest developments in the wider region. More specifically, Mr. Sofianos’ contribution focused on the key energy issues in South-East Europe and the necessity for regional energy cooperation through a smooth transition process. Mr. Sofianos’ participation was especially relevant and timely, as IENE is currently in the process of completing its major reference study "SE Europe Energy Outlook 2016” to be released later this year.
The event attracted interest, among others, from the Albanian Ministry of Energy, the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, energy associations, civil society organizations, researches, professionals in the energy sector and diplomatic corps.
