IENE’s Executive Director, Mr. Costis Stambolis, participated as a speaker in the 5th Strategic Conference on "Investments in Greece and Development Prospects”, which took place on May 29, 2017, in Athens. Organized by the Hellenic Institute of Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, in co-operation with the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen, gathered several distinguished representatives from Greece’s political and business life. All speakers focused on the various aspects of Greece’s potential, contributing fruitful views and suggestions on attracting suitable investments for its exploitation, thus facilitating the country’s exit from its current and persisting financial crisis.

In his speech, Mr. Stambolis focused on the role of "Energy as a Springboard for Investments and Development – The Prospect for the Following Decade”, analyzing the role that the domestic energy field can play in attracting investments in Greece.

According to the Executive Director of IENE, Greece’s energy mix is expected to change significantly within the next decade by the further penetration of RES and natural gas consequently will incorporate new technologies and the building of the necessary energy infrastructure in production, transmission, distribution, trading and use of the several forms of energy towards achieving a future of more affordable prices. All these transformations will call for a significant rise in energy investments, which, in their turn, lead to the creation of new jobs.

Quoting the findings of IENE’s recently published major reference study "SE Europe Energy Outlook 2016/2017”, Mr. Stambolis pinpointed the sort of energy investments that are essential for Greece within the next decade (2016-2025).

According to the Institute’s study, for Greece the necessary energy investments, by 2025, will amount from €23.3 bln (low-case scenario) to €30.2 bln (high-case scenario), with the most part of these investments focusing on RES for electrical and non-electrical use, oil refining, electricity market, natural gas (expansion and upgrade of infrastructure) and on hydrocarbon research and production.

The presentation of IENE’s Executive Director in the 5th Strategic Conference on "Investments in Greece and Development Prospects” will soon become in the "Reports” section of this website.
