Gazprom, CNPC, and KazMunayGas to Boost Strategic Cooperation

On October 5 at the 7th St Petersburg International Gas Forum, Russian gas giant Gazprom, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Kazakhstan national oil and gas company KazMunayGas signed a Memorandum of Understanding in long-term strategic cooperation in the natural gas vehicle (NGV) market, including via developing the natural gas filling infrastructure at the Europe – China international transport corridor.

The document was signed by Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Huang Weihe, Vice President of PetroChina (under a power of attorney on behalf of CNPC), and Daniyar Berlibayev, Executive Vice President for Transportation, Processing and Marketing of KazMunayGas.

The Memorandum provides for, inter alia, an assessment of the potential number of gas-powered cargo vehicles and the amount of natural gas that could be used for refueling vehicles at the Russian, Kazakh and Chinese sections of the route in the period up to 2030, Gazprom said in a press release, adding that the results of the assessment will serve as the basis for the drawing up of the tripartite Roadmap for the development of the natural gas filling network along the Europe – China international transport route.
